2000-2010

In 2000, the choir’s 30th year, we attended the Europa Cantat 14 festival in Nevers, France. By this time Chris Simmons, our musical director, was the President of the organisation, and so we didn’t get to see much of him!

In 2001 the choir was invited to take part in the celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of Hartlepool receiving its charter, and being recognised as a town for the first time. To mark the occasion a service was held in St. Hilda’s church, on the town’s headland.

We also held a Requiem Service on October 7th 2001, performing Faure’s Requiem in St. Luke’s church with XHYC members, to remember the family of choir members who have died over the years. This was a very memorable and emotional occasion.

The choir’s most recent trip abroad was in the summer of 2003 when we travelled to Barcelona and took part in the Europa Cantat 15 festival. Again Chris was not with us for much of the time as he was busy with his official duties.

In January 2005 the choir celebrated its 35th anniversary. Like the Silver Jubilee, this was marked by a special concert featuring members past and present, singing familiar repertoire. Many family members and friends of the choir came to enjoy the music.

January 2005 also saw the retirement of Chris Simmons as Musical Director.

In 2005 we welcomed Gillian Sild, a local primary music teacher, as our new Musical Director.

In March 2009 the choir played hosts to the first Hartlepool Choral Prom which featured most of the choirs from Hartlepool who performed some of their own repertoire, on a maritime theme, and also as a mass choir for the finale. The event was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.

In 2010 the choir came to an end due to low numbers.
